Happy Dab Day, a second stoner holiday that has been growing in popularity since 2012. 7/10 is a day where cannabis users consume oil products, dabs, or concentrates, such as hash, shatter, and wax. This day focuses on the specific type of cannabis use because 710 backward and upside-down spells oil. LA Weekly ran an article back in July of 2013 entitled “710 is the new 420” which is when the term grew in popularity and pushed concentrates into mainstream consumption.
“710 IS THE NEW 420”
Whether you’re new to the world of cannabis or have been a consumer for a while, dabbing is a rather uncommon way to consume cannabis. It involves using a small amount of concentrate, oil, or shatter, and preheating a metal or ceramic surface and then breathing in the cannabinoid cloud produced. Dabbing is a quick way to get high, the entire process is compressed into a few short seconds. Depending on the process of extraction, concentrates have glass-like appearances and occasionally appear as a dark, opaque liquid. They contain high levels of cannabinoids which make them significantly more potent than a bud.
Convenience is a huge factor as well, with higher potency levels, you only need to carry one or two grams worth when on the go. Concentrates are stored in smaller containers and are easier to carry in pockets or bags than containers of flower. Similar to concentrates, electronic vaporizers are also growing in popularity, as they are more discreet and provide a powerful hit when out in public.
Concentrate production has been on an upward trend in purchases – producers are able to convert hundreds of kilograms of bud into few liters of extract, making it easier to package and transport. Home growers can even produce their own concentrates with readily available extraction kits sold online. Besides just using concentrates for dabs, they can be added to edible products as well. Dabbing has quickly become a modern part of the cannabis industry.
