Arizona Cannabis Package and Label Laws and Requirements

As of November 2020, Arizona voters passed Proposition 2007, which legalized recreational cannabis use for adults aged 21 and over in the state. The legalization of recreational cannabis has resulted in the establishment of new regulations for cannabis packaging and labeling in Arizona.

The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) has outlined specific guidelines for the packaging and labeling of cannabis products in the state. The guidelines include requirements for child-resistant packaging, product labeling, and warning statements.

Packaging Requirements

All cannabis products sold in Arizona must be packaged in child-resistant packaging. The packaging must meet the standards set by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA) and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The packaging must also meet the requirements of the ASTM International standards for child-resistant packaging. Click here to view our cannabis packaging.

The packaging must be opaque or translucent, and it must not have any designs or images that are likely to appeal to children. The packaging must be  tamper-evident and resealable.

Labeling Requirements

All cannabis products sold in Arizona must have a label that includes specific information. The label must include the product name, the quantity of THC and CBD in the product, and the name and address of the dispensary that sold the product.

The label must also include a warning statement that reads, "This product has intoxicating effects and may be habit-forming." The warning statement must be in bold font and must be placed in a prominent location on the label.

The label must also include the following information:

- The date of manufacture or packaging

- The expiration date, if applicable

- A list of ingredients

- Directions for use

- The batch number

- Any relevant health or safety warnings

In addition to these requirements, edible cannabis products must have a label that includes the serving size, the number of servings per package, and the total amount of THC in the package. Click here to view or cannabis warning labels.
