In the first five days of recreational marijuana sales, Ohio dispensaries have racked up over $11.5 million in revenue. From August 6 to August 10, dispensaries across the state processed 138,466 transactions, according to the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control. This initial surge in sales includes a variety of cannabis products such as flower, vape pods, edibles, and more.
Alongside recreational sales, medical marijuana purchases totaled $1.9 million during the same timeframe. Ohioans aged 21 and older are permitted to buy up to 2.5 ounces of flower and nearly 0.5 ounces of extracts per day.
Recreational marijuana was legalized in Ohio following a voter-approved measure in November 2023. Since then, the state has been preparing for this new market, with the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control working to issue operation certificates to dispensaries for recreational sales.
As the recreational marijuana market expands, Ohio is poised to experience a substantial economic boost. The move to legalize recreational cannabis is anticipated to drive economic growth and job creation, with the generated revenue expected to increase state tax revenue and support various state programs and services.
