The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA) in Washington D.C. has ordered the closure of an illegal marijuana shop accused of distributing illicit cannabis products, including psychedelic mushrooms. The shop, Supreme Terpene, had repeatedly ignored compliance notices since April 2024.
According to ABCA records, Supreme Terpene was selling cannabis and related products, such as THC-infused edibles and flowers, without a valid Basic Business License. Despite a cease-and-desist order issued in July, the shop persisted in its illegal sales.
An investigation conducted in August revealed that Supreme Terpene continued to operate by using a covert website. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) tested products purchased from the shop, finding them to contain both THC and amphetamines.
Under a 2024 D.C. Council Act, the ABCA now has enhanced authority to shut down unlicensed cannabis establishments. The new law allows the ABCA to investigate, close, and seize cannabis products from non-compliant retailers.
Supreme Terpene’s owner, Perry Young, has the right to appeal the closure order. Young asserts that the accusations against his shop are unfounded and claims he had sought to meet with the ABCA to discuss his plans to close the business by the end of the month. Meanwhile, the ABCA reports having issued 24 cease-and-desist orders to other unlicensed cannabis shops in the District.
This action by the ABCA is part of a broader crackdown on illegal cannabis sales in Washington D.C. The agency aims to ensure all cannabis retailers in the city are properly licensed and adhere to legal regulations.
