New Jersey Cannabis Package and Label Laws and Requirements

As of February 22, 2021, New Jersey has legalized the use of recreational cannabis for adults over the age of 21. The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) has been established to oversee the state’s medical and adult-use cannabis programs.

Packaging and labeling requirements for cannabis products in New Jersey are specified in the state’s cannabis laws and regulations. The following are some of the key requirements:

Packaging: Cannabis products must be sold in child-resistant packaging that meets the standards established by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The packaging must be opaque, resealable, and tamper-evident. Click here to view our cannabis packaging.

- Net weight or volume of the product

- THC and CBD content, expressed in milligrams per serving and per package

- Date of manufacture and expiration date, or a “use-by” date

- Batch number or other identifier

Advertising: Cannabis advertising is subject to strict regulations in New Jersey. All advertising must include a warning that the product contains cannabis and may cause impairment. Advertising is prohibited in places where children are likely to be present, such as schools, playgrounds, and public parks.

-
Lab testing: All cannabis products must be tested by an independent laboratory licensed by the CRC. The lab must test for potency, purity, and contaminants such as pesticides and heavy metals.

Transporting cannabis: Cannabis products must be transported in a secure, locked container that is not visible from the outside of the vehicle. The vehicle must be equipped with an alarm system that will sound if the container is tampered with.

In conclusion, New Jersey’s cannabis package and label laws and requirements are designed to ensure the safety and integrity of the state’s cannabis industry. By following these regulations, cannabis businesses can help protect consumers and ensure that their products are of the highest quality
